Houston Astros 50th Anniversary Collector s Edition

Houston Astros: A half-century in the National League
Having endured a 4-month long wait from the time I pre-ordered this set until it was released and arrived at my door, I was more than excited to see these games and the accompanying documentary. The only true problem with this collection is that it leaves this die-hard Astros fan wanting more, but I'm sure that's the case with the fans of all the teams that have thus far had an Essential Games collection released.

There have been sometimes conflicting, and at other times incorrect, descriptions of which games would be on the set, so I'll list them here:

Disc 1: Nolan Ryan's 5th no-hitter against the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1981.

Disc 2: Mike Scott's 1986 no-hitter against the San Francisco Giants that clinched the NL West Division title for the Astros.

Disc 3: Game 5 of the 2005 NLDS against the Atlanta Braves. An 18-inning marathon in which homers by Lance Berkman (8th-inning grand slam), Brad Ausmus (9th-inning game-tying), and Chris...

Very Disappointing Documentary - OK Games
Being a Die Hard Houston Astros fan I was extremely excited that such a product was being released, especially after the excellent Astros:25 Years Silver Odyssey was released 25 years ago. Unfortunatley, the Houston Astros 50th Anniversary Collector's Edition documentary was a hug disappointment for me and seemed hurriedly put together. I know the Houston Astros do not have the same great history as the New York Mets, but I was hoping for more than a quick documentary and just two average games. Personally, I would have liked to see more on the 1980 and 1986 NLCS, especially the 1980 NLCS. I would have enjoyed more information on the 1979 season, History of the Astrodome or some great players in the past. I was hoping for a little more on Don Wilson (only Astro to pitch two no-hitters) and Jimmy Wynn, James Umbricht, Dick "Turk" Farrell (who once snuck a baby alligator into the whirlpool of the Colt .45s' clubhouse), Doug Rader, J.R. Richard, Joe Niekro, etc. I know it is...

Great for any baseball fan....
This is an awesome collection. I have been an Astro fan since their existence in the National League. It was nice to see the completed games in their entirety. The only negative review I would have would be the missing NLCS game that took the Astros to their first World Series. I would have love to see that game again in the collection.
